Walking is inextricably linked to Vincent Solheid’s artistic journey. Atypical, unclassifiable, multifaceted artist: how can we define a man in constant movement, a drawer whose behaviour is unfathomable, simply because his poetics of enigma would not be identified with any precise category of the art trade?  As in Jorge Luis Borgès’s fantastic universes, all in vertiginous mirror games, the question related to the meaning that is to be followed, circumvented, deciphered is ubiquitous in this gnostic quest. What is the truth? What is hidden from us? Which path should we take?

Vincent Solheid’s artistic experience is like a trip, a mysterious reading, and a moving journey where gesture and words question the meaning of presence. This fantastic artist full of humour and derision wears multiple hats without losing his head. Masked heir to James Ensor, Fantômas and Louis de Funès, Vincent Solheid is a drawer, a painter, a rambler, a filmmaker, an altar boy, an artist, a travel strategist, a wandering actor, a singer of the breaded host, a cyclist, a scriptwriter, and the president of a carnival band.

However, before anything else, he is a plastic artist who combines the tragic articulation between myths of departure and of return.

Music, theatre, artistic workshops, Vincent Sol- heid does not dilute art in a multitude of practic- es. He is part of these contemporary paradoxes which shake up the notion of the status of the artist and the definition of the work. There is al- ways something to see in this art of irony which stigmatises consumer society with its too rigid logic. Referring again to the comparison made by Marcel Duchamp, you should see in him the artiste who moves forward like a walker in a dark forest. The search for the clearing will be the story of his life.
